A Beautiful New Arch for Your Grin

A sporty senior woman at the park

Rather than just a tooth or two, maybe your smile has lost all its natural teeth. Your run-of-the-mill dentures could leave a lot to be desired in that case. That said, our office can provide you with a more secure appliance that’d restore your whole grin at once. Just come visit Lyndon Family Dental for implant dentures here in Fayetteville! As for what they are and what they do, please keep reading or book a visit to learn the details.

What are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are simply those that use dental implants. They rely on metal posts that fuse with your jaw to remain secure and stable.  As these implants act as substitute tooth roots, the attached full denture restores a whole arch of teeth at once. The result is a whole grin that’s pretty, comfy, and lifelike!

Despite the above, implant dentures aren’t all the same as each other. Our dentists will suggest you get one of two kinds during your consultation visit. These types are the following:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures (per their name) remain firmly in place and can only be removed by a dentist. In general, they tend to use four to six dental implants.

Many patients enjoy fixed implant dentures for their security. Not only do the restorations stay still, but they can also be cleaned like natural teeth. Still, these dentures require patients to have high jawbone density.

Removable Implant Dentures

Unlike fixed ones, removable implant dentures can be taken out as needed. They only “snap on” to implant posts with clips or ball sockets.

Notably, these implant dentures tend to be less invasive than the fixed type. They only need to place two to five implant posts and thus require less jawbone density. However, the patient does have to remove them for daily cleanings and other forms of care.

The Implant Denture Process

If implant dentures suit you, our office will draft a custom treatment plan. This blueprint will outline the major phases of your upcoming care with us. By sticking to it closely, our team will ensure you get the best possible results.

Any given implant denture treatment consists of three key steps. The first of these is implant surgery, which will place implant posts in your jaw’s empty sockets. Next is the post-surgery recovery – a time when you’ll heal from the placement and let your implants fuse with your jaw. Once you’ve gotten your abutments, the last treatment phase will be the delivery of your final denture. We’ll attach this device to your implants so that it blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most adults with fair health (physical and oral) can qualify for implant dentures; the only restriction is that you lack all (or most) of your natural teeth. That said, some patients do benefit from this treatment more than others. Ideal candidates to get it usually have the following qualities:

  • A commitment to good oral hygiene
  • No major pre-existing oral issues
  • A desire for permanent replacement teeth
  • Sufficient jawbone density
